The Sri Lanka Cabinet has approved the creation of the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund to support national recovery after the severe devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwa, one of the worst natural disasters in Sri Lanka’s recent history. The fund will function as a statutory entity under the Presidential Secretariat, overseen by a Management Committee with members from both the public and private sectors.
The committee will be chaired by Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando (Minister of Labour & Deputy Minister of Finance), with G.M.R.D. Aponso as the Convener. Senior government officials and leading private-sector heads—including representatives from Hayleys, JKH, Aitken Spence, Brandix, and LOLC—will also serve on the committee.
The committee is responsible for needs assessment, priority setting, fund allocation, disbursement, auditing, and ensuring full transparency in all recovery-related financial activities.
Donors may contribute in Sri Lankan Rupees to a designated Bank of Ceylon account or transfer foreign currency donations directly to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka through specified USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, and AUD accounts.
