#SriLanka in series win over Australia with a match to spare

Galle – Sri Lanka beat Australia by 229 runs to win the Warne-Muralitharan Trophy for the first time beating World No 1 Test team.

Dilruwan Perera became the First Sri lankan to take 10 wickets and score a half century in a Test Match.

It was only the third test victory for Sri Lanka against Australia their cricketing rivals.

Australia started the day 25/3 chasing a improbable 413 to win but lost wickets regularly to spinners Dilruwan and first innings hat trick hero Herath. Eventually Australia fell well short of the target with neither of the Australian batsmen passing 50 in both innings.

Herath, who featured in Sri Lanka’s 1-0 series win against Australia in 1999, said winning the current series would be an even greater achievement.
“The first Test is always special. At that time, we had some big stars — Arjuna (Ranatunga), Aravinda (de Silva) and Sanath (Jayasuriya).
“But we have not much experience here and I am really pleased with what I have done,” he added.

The third test is set to start in Colombo on 13th.
