The Muslim Ministers and MPs have written to President Maithripala Siresena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to request immediate intervention to stop the harassment of Muslims in different parts of the country.
The country saw an upsurge of communal violence targeting Muslims in Ampara and Kandy areas earlier this month where properties and businesses owned by Muslims were torched down. A 10 day State of Emergency was declared and STF deployed to control the situation.
21 Muslim parliamentarians had asked the president to intervene and halt the hate campaign against Muslims within the next 30 days.
