Sri Lanka’s Crime Investigation Division has cancelled BBC Sri Lanka’s journalist probe over a tweet made couple of days back.
The CID had summoned Ameen to record a statement over one of his retweets
Ameen stated on social media that he was informed by the Police by phone as well in writing this morning that CID cancelled the probe and thanking the support he received by well wishers.

The BBC journalist had commented and retweeted a tweet which appeared on the official twitter account of the President’s media division where the President was asked how he intends to implement some of his proposals made in Parliament.
“In the short time that my administration has been in power, we were able to introduce many progressive legislative reforms. We hope to bring about many more new Acts to strengthen our democracy,” the President tweeted last evening.
Minutes later, the President’s Media Division Twitter account responded to the tweet saying, “you are a wonderful speaker. But do you ensure they turn into action. Show by doing!”
“You are a wonderful speaker. But how do you ensure they turn into action. Show by doing!” Advice to President Sirisena from his own @PMDNewsGov,” Ameen had tweeted.
