The General Secretary of Sri Lanka’s hardline Buddhist Clergy group ‘Bodu Bala Sena’ (BBS), the Venerable Gnanasara Thero, who was adjudged guilty of threatening the wife of missing Sri Lankan journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, Sandya Eknaligoda, has been sentenced to jail.

The controversial monk Gnanasara Thero was sentenced to a one year jail term which was reduced to six months and a fine of Rs. 50,000 was also imposed.
The sentence was issued today by the Homagama Magistrate.
The monk was found guilty last month of threatening Sandya Eknaligoda, the wife of the missing journalist within the Homagama court premises in 2016.
On May 24, the Homagama Magistrate’s Court found the BBS General Secretary guilty of threatening Sandya Ekneligoda within the premises of the Homagama Magistrate’s Court. His sentencing was announced today.
The BBS said that it will file an appeal against the judgment. Here is what she had to say.
