‘No countrywide lockdown, only area based isolation’- Army Commander; as Sri Lanka record daily high of 1431 cases

There is no decision to impose a country-wide lockdown, stressed Army Commander General Shavendra Silva on Wednesday (28).

“Some Grama Niladhari Divisions and Police Areas were placed in isolation without prior notice, so people did not have time to gather supplies,” he said.

“Unlike before when we place an area in isolation by giving prior notice, this time we are compelled to immediately isolate areas in isolation when there is a considerable rise in the number of COVID-19 cases from a particular area,” said General Shavendra Silva adding that is why it was announced the people need to be prepared.

“There is no decision to go for a complete lockdown, therefore there is no need to panic,” stressed the Army Commander.

General Shavendra silva said when there is a considerable rise of COVID-19 cases in a particular area, that area will be placed in isolation with immediate effect.
