Sri Lanka government announces phased relaxation of curfew from 20th April in certain areas

Sri Lanka government announces phased relaxation of curfew from 20th April in certain areas in a announcement released to the press today.

The curfew imposed around the country will be temporarily lifted in most areas, including in parts of Colombo next week Monday, April 20th.

The President’s Media Division said that the curfew will continue daily from 8pm to 5am in these areas.

The curfew in the selected areas, namely Kotahena, Grandpass, Bambalapitiya, Keselwatte, Maradana, Gotatuwa, Muleriyawa, Wellampitiya, Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Kokuwala will continue until further notice.

Meanwhile, in Colombo, the curfew will be temporarily lifted in most areas on Wednesday 22 April at 5am and reimposed at 8pm, except in Kotahena, Grandpass, Bambalapitiya, Keselwatte, Maradana, Gotatuwa, Muleriyawa, Wellampitiya, Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Kokuwala.

Schools, universities, assistant classes and other education institutions and other educational institutions and cinema stations should be closed until they are announced again.

In addition there will be limitations to the number of employees instructed to report to work at Government institutions in areas where the curfew will be temporarily lifted next week. Private organizations will be instructed to open office at 10am and also decide on the number of staff they require.
