Sri Lanka Central Bank Governor denies IMF restructuring

Sri Lanka Central Bank Governor has denied IMF restructuring meeting.

Earlier, Reuters news agency reported that Sri Lanka will begin talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) next month on a plan to help the crisis-hit country, including assistance with debt restructuring and managing its foreign exchange shortage.

“Meetings of Sri Lankan authorities with IMF officials over the next few weeks are not for the purpose of debt restructuring as stated by some news agencies” Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivad Cabral tweeted.

“Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa will travel to Washington D.C. in mid-April to present Sri Lanka’s proposal to senior IMF officials, two sources with knowledge of the ongoing discussions told” Reuters reported.
