Watch: Former minister Gammanpila says 120 MPs ready to support NCM against gov, PM rebuffs as lies

Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila says that the independent group of MPs has decided to support the No-Confidence Motion against the Government.

“Now there are 120 MPs who would support the No-Confidence motion, if the government does not step down. The No-Confidence Motion will be handed over to the Parliament this week,” MP Udaya Gammanpila said.

He said the opposition had the support of 120 MPs on the no-confidence motion against the government.

According to the MP, 65 Opposition MPs (SJB,TNA,JVP), 39 Independent group MPs, 10 SLPP MPs, three Muslim MPs who withdrew from the Government last week, SLPP MPs Dulles Alahapperuma, Charitha Herath and Nalaka Godahewa are supporting the no-confidence motion.

Meanwhile P Cassilingham coordinating secretary to the PM tweeted that ‘I am with PM right now. And I read this news out to him and his response was, “Gammapila is lying as usual”.’

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has not informed any groups that he will resign from the premiership as he still holds the majority seats in Parliament, senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office informed journalists a short while ago.

Officials said that the Prime Minister in his discussions with SLPP party members and independent and religious groups had not discussed his resignation as he still had over 100 seats in Parliament, and any other claims are false, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Senior officials from Rajapaksa’s office were responding to claims made by Udaya Gammanpila who informed the media today morning that 120 MPs were now supporting the No Confidence Motion against the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister himself had informed certain groups including Buddhist monks and party leaders that he was ready to step down.
