Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa has rejected the invitation made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to accept the Premiership and establish an interim government.
As reported exclusively by MDWLive yesterday President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had telephoned Sajith Premadasa extending an invitation to take over the government after Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa tenders his resignation.
“Our leader refused to accept the president’s offer,” Tissa Attanayake, the national organiser for Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) told reporters.
According to SJB MP Tissa Attanayake, the opposition leader has refused to accept any such proposal to form an interim administration without simultaneously working to abolish the Executive Presidency.
Meanwhile Sajith Premadasa provided an update after discussions with Bar Association of Sri Lanka today.
“We must clearly say the main reason for the current crisis in the dictatorial executive presidency,” Premadasa said Sunday after meeting the Bar Association of Ceylon which had earlier presented a series of proposals which the opposition said it would take into account.
“This autocratic presidency must end immediately. We have said that clearly. We are not willing to move away from that foundation.”
“We are inviting the BASL to play a supportive role in a transparent way to take this forward. We are mindful of the pain of the people.”
