UAE deportee, suspect linked to Easter Sunday Attack arrested by Sri Lanka TID

Sri Lanka’s Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) has arrested a suspect in Weligama yesterday (21) on charges of attempting to spread extremism in the country, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The TID  also found Rs. 2.7 million in the possession of suspect, who has been identified to have linked with the Easter Sunday attacks.

The suspect has been deported from the United Arab Emirates on 12 March and has been identified as a 42-year-old resident of Mawanella.

The suspect has also found to be a member of Jamaat-e-Islami extremist ideology group.

DIG Rohan added that the suspect is currently being detained by the TID under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
